Abstract

Symplocos anamallayana and S. foliosa are endemic and threatened tree species of southern Western Ghats, India. In this paper, we clarify the typification of names of these two species to fix the identity and to avoid misapplication of names, because no original material was cited in the protologues of these taxa. Detailed taxonomic description of the two species with coloured photoplates is provided for easy identification. The recently described S. sisparensis is treated as a new synonym of S. foliosa.
