Type specimens of Solanum section Petota Dumort. (Solanaceae) taxa in the N. I. Vavilov Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (WIR) and the V. L. Komarov Botanical Institute (LE): new findings and updates
Abstract
Herbariums of the V. L. Komarov Botanical Institute of RAS (LE) and N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (WIR) have unique collections of wild and cultivated potatoes of Central and South America gathered by domestic collectors – S. M. Bukasov and S. V. Yuzepchuk. The peculiarity of herbarium material on potatoes, leading researchers to an ambiguous typification, is their representation by complex collections from nature and from introduction. In this case, the main morphological objects for describing new taxa are often the aboveground parts of plants grown from the brought tubers and seeds. The authentic material of S. V. Yuzepchuk and S. M. Bukasov often consists of several herbarium specimens of samples reproduced for a number of years. Each year plants were herbarized and transferred in herbariums. In the protologue text for the type designation S. V. Yuzepchuk and S. M. Bukasov have most often quoted the place of collection of tubers and their registration expedition number. Thus, following the protologue, the primary material can be represented by several herbarium specimens collected at different times, but having a common origin. As a result of the carried out revision of the WIR and LE Herbarium collections, data on type samples of 18 taxa of the Solanum L. section Petota Dumort., belonging to S. V. Yuzepchuk, S. M. Bukasov, V. S. Lechnovitsch are provided here. Lectotypes were selected for S. abbotianum Juz., S. aracc-papa Juz., S. catarthrum Juz., S. colombianum Dun. var. trianae Bitt. f. quindiuense Buk., S. depexum Juz., S. horovitzii Buk., S. knappei Juz. et Buk., S. macolae Buk., S. millanii Buk. et Lechn., S. molinae Juz., S. schickii Juz. et Buk., S. vavilovii Juz. et Buk.Downloads
