Keywords: genus Polygonum, subsection and section Polygonum, taxonomy, Western Sayan

Abstract

A new species from the Western Sayan, Polygonum sajanense (Polygonaceae), belonging to the type section and subsection of the genus is described. The new species differs from the closely related one, P. arenastrum, by small fruits (1.7–2.0 mm long) and perianths (1.7–2.0 mm long), thickish small (0.7 cm long and 0.25 cm wide) pale green leaves with barely visible lateral veins. The species is described based on materials from the Herbarium of the Central Siberian Botanical Garden (NS) collected during the 2022 field season in the Western Sayan.
