Abstract
September 24, 2024, marked the 80th anniversary of the famous German botanist Dr Reinhard Michael Fritsch. The memorial article briefly describes his biography and development as a taxonomist of the genus Allium. Reinhard Fritsch made a particularly significant contribution to the taxonomy of the subgenus Melanocrommyum and is the author and co-author of over 150 scientific papers, including monographs and collections of works. Many new taxa of higher plants were described (or nomenclatural combinations were made) with the participation of R. M. Fritsch. The scientist actively participated in expeditionary research in Central Asia, Iran, and Turkey. Five plant species from the genera Allium, Crocus, Gagea and Puccinia were named in honor of Reinhard Fritsch.
